Let's face it; every baseball player, coach and parent is looking for the edge that will enable them to take their game to a higher level. Billions of dollars are spent each year on the newest, high-tech equipment, individual batting and pitching lessons and many different gadgets and gimmicks. In this environment where people will do almost anything to get ahead, some people come to the scene who claim to know how to train men and women for baseball, but use old and ineffective methods.
In order to maximize your baseball skill and take your game to the next level your must choose the proper baseball training methods. Even the most talented ballplayers need to continually develop core strength and conditioning, which is fundamental to an effective training regimen. Even though the need for a quality training program is universally recognized, there are few that deliver on the promise of improved performance.
This is obviously not what you want and need to improve your baseball performance. So I encourage you to take a long look at your baseball training program and be sure it includes a combination of free weight movements, medicine ball drills and dynamic movements. These movements will give you the best results and are also the most efficient and effective type of exercises you can do to improve your baseball conditioning.
Training on machines is a sure way to train your muscles the wrong way. Trying to do baseball strength training on machines is a complete waste of time. Worse actually, because it's taking time from more effecitive training. The goal should be to stand up during your workout and sit as little as possible. Since baseball is played on your feet your baseball training should as well.
With that said do not swing a heavy baseball bat or throw a heavy baseball. These baseball training methods will not improve your hitting and pitching. It doesn't take much to do these particular techniques incorrectly, and when done wrong they will likely lead to injury.
To truly excel on the field, training must incorporate the specific movements involved in baseball. Movements in gym workouts should recruit the same joints, muscles and movements that are used in the course of practice or a game. Your baseball training program can make or break you as a baseball player.
