The first part to our quit smoking guide is understanding how smoking becomes addictive. Once you discover the roots of the addiction, it is much easier to remove the behaviour.

* Addiction to nicotine: Nicotine is a substance found in tobacco that is highly addictive. Smoking trains your body to receive regular doses of nicotine. With time your body requires more nicotine and you begin to increase the number of cigarettes you smoke each day. Although addictive, nicotine itself is not very harmful. However, the other ingredients found in cigarettes are extremely dangerous to your health.

* Mental addiction: As you continue to add nicotine daily, smoking becomes routine. Many cigarettes are smoked because of the ritual, not because of the need for more nicotine. Some people only smoke in nightclubs or at cocktail parties. Others will light up after a meal.

The second part of the quit smoking guide is how to cope with the addiction.

Start with a nicotine replacement therapy or get a stop smoking injection. The NTR (nicotine replacement therapy) replaces cigarette nicotine with nicotine delivered though other sources such as gums, patches or nasal sprays. The stop smoking injection is a more radical approach to nicotine addiction. The ingredients of the injection simply block the nicotine receptors in your brain. Your brain wont recognize the substance and the cravings stop. Your doctor will be able to prescribe you the best medical treatment in accordance with your health conditions.

Medical treatment will relieve your withdrawal symptoms and clean air will help you to cope with the rest. Behavioral therapy can help you switch your habits and lifestyle to exclude smoking. You can also get support from your friends and family. Try going to ex-smokers meetings. There are many self-support groups available for this reason.
