Quit smoking and you'll notice a great improvement in your health, you'll also notice a substantial upswing in your financial situation because smoking is an expensive habit. Smoking has become a very expensive habit, and it's obviously worse when you smoke more than one pack per day. Most smokers start out smoking relatively few cigarettes per day, but as the addiction takes hold, you have to start increasing the number of cigarettes you need to have each day in order to keep feeling the mood enhancement that nicotine addiction gives you, so the cost of your habit rises accordingly until you make the decision to quit smoking.

Right now, you can easily calculate the drain on your household budget by figuring out how many packs per day you smoke, multiplying that number by 365 and then dividing that number by 12. If you then multiply by the cost of a pack of cigarettes, that's the monthly cost of your nicotine habit, which would fall to zero immediately when you quit smoking.

As an example, if you're paying $3.58 a pack, which is low compared to some areas, and you smoke one pack a day, then your annual cost is $1,306.70. That's an expensive habit.

The cost escalates if you're smoking 2-3 packs a day and you live in a part of the country where cigarettes are $5 a pack or more, the impact on your finances is staggering! You're spending between $3,650 and $5,475 a year, that becomes an incredible $36,500 to $54,750 in ten years! The mind boggles when you think of the effect that amount of money could have on your way of life, not to forget the improvement to your health, when you quit smoking.

The price of smoking doesn't stop with the amount you pay over the counter for your habit, there are many associated costs. There's a higher dry cleaning bill to remove stains and odors and smokers have more teeth cleaning for the same reasons.

As a smoker you're also slugged with higher insurance. This is passed on by health care providers to cover the large impact that smoking has on the nation's economy.

Want to upgrade your car? If you've been smoking in it, you won't get as much for your trade-in as you would if you had quit smoking. By the way, that's no excuse for constantly flicking your ash out the window and dumping your butts on the road, not only can this be a major cause of grass fires, but it doesn't stop your car from stinking of cigarette smoke. In addition, studies are showing that smokers earn less and are running the risk of being unemployable by companies with a non smoking policy.

We haven't even factored in the health care costs associated with smoking yet. When you stop and think about the enormous health impact smoking has, the cost is even greater. Quit smoking for your and your loved ones health, but also to reduce your financial waste and put the money you've saved toward your lifelong dreams.
